Hi, all. I'm an old person here in Colorado who loves to run. I started about 2 1/2 years ago after I had a heart attack and bypass surgery. I'm pretty slow but I continue to plod along. Right now I'm training for my fourth half marathon. This one is part of the Las Vegas Marathon on January 30. I hope to run a marathon some day but right now half marathons are about all I can handle. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I enjoy reading other runners' comments and ideas, so I'll be back again. Hope everyone has a great day. It's supposed to be up to 60 degrees here in my part of Colorado.

Hey Terry, welcome. Don't just be a lurker, though...chime in! All opinions are valued! 60 degrees in Colorado in January. What a winter!

Welcome aboard Terry! I agree, don't be shy about chiming in with your opinions. Nobody here has an exclusive license on the "right" answer to anything. The more, the merrier!

Good luck with your training for Las Vegas! Have you had to make any special changes to your training program in light of your heart surgery? The good news is that running is practically a fountain of youth for your heart, body, and mind, especially for older runners. See some of the past articles in the archives section about running and health.

And be sure to post a race report after Las Vegas to let us know how it went, too!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll try to chime in when I feel the urge. The only thing I've had to get used to since my heart attack and surgery is being so slow. But I haven't given up just because of that because I really enjoy running.

Welcome aboard Terry! Colorado huh? So you not only have monster hills (a.k.a. "mountains") to climb when running, but wicked winters as well. It's funny how when someone says where they are from, I immediately put it in a running context ("Arizona? Dang, I would have to get up really early to run or just die in the heat", etc.).
