A duet of races Posted: Sun May 20, 2007 10:03 am |

I did two back-to-back races this weekend, a first for me! Saturday was a 3.54 mile race with my running club, over some rolling neighborhood streets. My plan was to take it a little easy and save some energy for Sunday's race, but in retrospect I definitely benefited from starting off at a conservative pace. I felt pretty good near the end, and in the final half mile I managed to pass another club member who usually finishes in front of me. Woot! Of course he's 30 years older than I am, but who's counting? Total time was 24:55, 7:02 pace.
Sunday I did a 5K race that's part of the Hometown Days celebration of a nearby town. It was a typical mix of kids, walkers, and runners that can make for a bit of chaos at the start. I may have gone out a little bit too hard at first, and flagged slightly in the last mile, but overall the pacing wasn't too terrible. I was still passing people the whole way, expect for one sandbagger who came out of nowhere to blow past me at the finish. Total time was 21:39, 6:58 pace. Not bad, but if I want to take another shot at a sub-20:00 5K, I've still got a long way to go!
