Overcrowded and an insane experience.Rating: 2 Posted: Fri Jan 28, 2005 10:48 pm
If you are trying to get a PR, this is NOT the race for you. Several places throughout the course have bottlenecks that bring people to a crawl speed. The 26 thousand people made for an overcrowded and overwhelming experience. There was no speed groups or estimated finish time lanes, etc....just a hord of people trying to get somewhere. It took me 8 minutes to cross the start line and 12 miles to finally get up to my pace...very frustrating experience for me. Yes, LA has some interesting sights but I found I missed many of them because I had to watch out for other runners or raod debry. If you are at all competative, I'd recommend getting to the front of the pack at the start line. Napa usually runs at the same time of year and I'd do that race first.
