I went out for a nice leisurely 3 mile run yesterday. Not scheduled. Just for fun. Took my dog with me. I didn't bring water. Why should I? It's such a short run. But then I felt pretty good and thought I would keep running. I arrived at home over two hours later pretty dehydrated. My dog about died! I had a headache for most of the rest of the day. I got pretty sick last night. Better today, though still seem a bit dehydrated. Why would I do such a stupid thing when I know better? I left my 70oz CamelBak at home along with my e-Caps and Hammer Gels. Oh the humanity!
Stupid, but I knew you could relate. At least I hope you have done something as stupid during one of your many runs! :o)

My favorite stupid trick was the 1 1/2 hour trail run I was going on. I noticed a trail that shot off the main one I usually hit every Saturday and ventured up it. It led to this AWESOME trail at the top of the Griffith Park hills that turned 1 1/2 hours into 2 hours, 45 minutes! Luckiliy I had my water and a couple of GUs with me.
It's all in the adventure sometimes.

I had a similar experience once when I got lost while running around a new neighborhood. I accidentally ran down the wrong side of very large hill, wandered for a long time, then finally retraced my steps and found my way home after about 2 hours when I'd only been planning to run for about 45 minutes. Like you, I didn't have any water. Doh!
I also did a similar stupid trick on my new bike this weekend. I went for my first ride before installing the frame pump or packing a spare tube or patch kit. Naturally I got a flat about a mile from home, and had to carry the bike all the way back.

Rickshaw, what kind of bike did you buy? Have you been catching any of the Tour de France? Did you see Zabriskie crash yesterday less than a mile from the finish and lose at least a tie for the lead with Armstrong? What a heartbreak that's got to be. I've been thinking of getting out to do some riding myself lately, but like my body my bike is old and dusty and tired out.

It's a used road bike-- about 10 years old, but it's barely seen any use. It's fun to be able to actually go somewhere real on my rides, as opposed to running in a big circle around the neighborhood. I wasn't very interested in getting a mountain bike. I need to set myself up for a trialthon some day, assuming I ever learn to swim!
