End of tether Posted: Thu Dec 06, 2007 7:23 am

Hi guys, I did a long triathlon in Sept, run section 30k after 120k mountainous bike, and ever since, my knees have been very painful A week or two I would expect, maybe even three, but this is getting on for three months that I get a lot of pain after even only 10 mins running and tend to stop or not even bother going out in the first place. Any ideas how this race could have done so much damage and any steps I could take? Knees slightly achy in training for race, due to long sessions, but nothing out of the ordinary. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the triathlon!

Sorry to hear about your knee problems. Could it be IT-band problems? What's your stretching routine like? Is it both knees, or just one? Sounds like it's time to see a doctor or physical therapist.

Right knee worse than left, and I suppose since I am hardly exercising I am telling myslef I don't need to stretch - maybe some work on ITB is in order - many thanks for the response!

Since this has helped me so much I'm throwing it out there for everyone else - my knee pain cleared up considerably in about three days after starting taking cod liver oil - from a bottle, not capsules. And I got it for my girlfriend, who was ill, and took it to show solidarity! After thrtee days she was still unwell, and I suddenly realised my knees were much better. Now it takes 30 mins of running before they hurt as opposed to the 10 mins before. So the oil appears to have soothed the inflammation - take note all you creaky-kneed runners out there!!
A lot later I saw a blog on foods that fight inflammation at www.runflux.com/blog and it was kind of mentioned in there too, along with other oils, so I guess I'm doing the right thing (if the blog is to be believed!)
HAppy running!
