So many running shoes, so little closet space... Posted: Mon Jan 02, 2006 9:03 pm

I just ordered running shoe pairs #14 and #15, counting from when I began running regularly a few years ago. At about $75 per pair, that's more than $1000 in running shoes. Yikes!

Man, don't I know it.

Today I just ordered a pair of Salomons that was $40 off and on their way to being discontinued. That's 4 pairs of trail shoes, and 5 pairs of road shoes in 12 months! Tally that up with shorts, socks, high tech shirts, water bottles, GUs...

Man, is that depressing.

It definitely can get pricey. Honestly, though, I don't feel at all guilty about the expense. It's not all that much compared to what I might spend on other hobbies like skiing or cars or something. And more importantly, it's all money invested in my own self-improvement, which is more than can be said for most anything else. How's that for rationalizing! :-)

yeah, i don't know which is worse; the cost of them or the space they take up. i recently moved and found myself throwing away a lot of stuff, but i just couldn't bring myself to toss out, for example, the pair of shoes i ran my first marathon in. i found myself throwing away other stuff instead. moving in with my girfriend, into an apartment with limited storage space, created another 'reason' to toss them. it's tough to explain why i'm hanging on to a dozen pair of shoes i don't wear. thank god she's a runner too, or she'd think i were totally nuts... i was also fortunate i still have less shoes overall than she does.
