Last month I took a header off a tree while running, and figured that was my embarrassing running moment for 2005. But then this afternoon I was crossing the street at a busy intersection, and I tripped on the curb and went down hard. I fell forward onto both palms before rolling left onto my shoulder, elbow, and knee and coming to a stop lying on my back. Boy did I feel stupid. When I picked myself up again, the lady in the nearest car gave me a thumbs up. Luckily I didn't get anything worse than a scrape.

man, there is no smooth recovery from a spill is there? I like the thumbs-up from the woman! i went down on sunday. it was doing this weird, snow/rain thing outside and i went to make my turn around and my feet just slid forward and i went down. no one was on the path right there when i did it, but i had the snow and wet spots all over me to prevent me from hiding what i had just done...

Reminds me of a couple of years ago when I came up to a stop street near the local junior high school on my new flashy mountain bike. It was my first bike that had those new-fangled shoe clips that lock your feet to the pedal. I came to a slow, beautiful stop at the stop sign, and as luck would have it, I couldn't get either foot out of the pedals. Over I went with my feet still locked in. It was tricky getting both my feet unlocked, especially the one the bike was now laying on, so I could get up from the middle of the street. It was in the morning and there were only about a million kids walking to school and being let off by their parents. Once I had recovered from my fall, I beat a hasty retreat without glancing around to see what kind of a response my little spectacle had evoked. Terry

Too funny! I fell over on my bike once like that too, and I just had toe cages! Talk about uncoordinated...

When i was younger and competing in a cross country race, i tried to outsprint an older girl to the finish line. Unfortunately i didn't see a tree branch sticking out, and my foot got snagged on it. The funny thing was that i did a complete forward roll and came back up on to my feet without losing any momentum whatsoever - i even beat the girl to the line!

Minnow - bet you that would have been funny to witness. It probably almost looked like a planned maneuver to let the other girl know that you were so confident that you could beat her, you would do a little acrobatic stunt before you crossed the finish line in front of her. Terry

That's hilarious! I bet you couldn't do that again even if you tried. Just the other day I narrowly missed a repeat of my wipeout #1 with an overhanging tree branch. I must be accident prone!
