Running on pillows... Posted: Thu Mar 03, 2005 10:01 am

Well, it just feels like it with my new shoes! I had 500+ miles on my NB 856's and being 200lbs means that they have been worn out for about the last 200 miles. :o)

Anyway, reading the Roadrunner catalog, they said that the 856 was for a small to medium frame person and that it's a motion control shoe. MC is probaby overkill as a stability shoe is all I really need since I'm a moderate overpronator. The NB 1221 was listed as being for a medium to large framed runner and it was listed as being one that is extra durable (AND more cushioned). They were more $, but I went ahead and bought the 1221's. I ran 7 miles in them this morning and they felt great. Like running on pillows. :o) I'm looking forward to my long run on Saturday now!

OK, I just had to tell someone because no one at work would understand how great it is to get a new pair of running shoes.

P.S. I bought them at holabird since they AGAIN had the cheapest prices on the net. $99. No one else even came close.

500? yeah, i'd say it was time for a switch. there's nothing like those first few runs in a fresh pair...

It's amazing what a new pair of shoes can do. Although we can't forget that the human body is amazingly able to deal without shoes at all, given practice. After all, shoes haven't been around long in evolutionary time. If I recall, the 1960 something Olympic marathon was won by a barefoot runner!

I've never heard of Holabird Sports before. So I looked them up to check on pricing on my brand of running show and found them to be more expensive at Holabird than at my standard online sites (Road Runner Sports and National Running Center).

I find that National Running Center usually has the best online prices but shipping can take a lot longer because they often don't have the "cheap" stuff in stock. And of course they don't tell you that it's not in stock until the next day after you've submitted your order. I've complained to them about providing realtime inventory status on their web site but to date they still don't seem to understand. So I only shop there if I can wait on shippment.

You've peaked my interest in the NB 1221. I'm a heavy runner too. I'll have to pop into one of my local running stores and try on a pair and see how they feel.

I don't know about every model, but even if I shelled out the bucks for a VIP membership at RRS, they would still be more expensive than Holabird for the 1221's. However, RRS's catalog puts Holabirds to shame. It spends at least a month on the back of my toilet before it get's tossed. :o)

I thought I was the only one who kept running catalogs in the bathroom!
