weekly workouts Feb 14-20 Posted: Mon Feb 21, 2005 8:34 am

How did everybody's week go? My first week of taper was pretty similar to the week before it:

M
T 6.2
W 7.2 (Billat 30-30's)
T 6.2
F
S 9
S 16

total: 45

Yesterday's 16 miler didn't go very well-- I was totally dead-legged, and ended up walking for several miles. I think I overtired from pushing too hard during Wednesday's 30-30 session, and not sleeping well in the days after that.

2 weeks until my goal marathon!

Rickshaw, one good thing about your dead legs is that they get to rest now in your taper. Are you getting excited/nervous about the race yet?

Stepback week for me, also my first time doing intervals:

M 4x800's
T 3
W 4 Tempo
T 0
F 6 Pace
S 9
S 3
TOT 31

So far still so good with the training. I've got a 4 mile race in NYC this Saturday that I'm looking forward to. I expect I'm more trained for a shorter race than ever before, simply becasuse my mileage is high getting ready for the end of May and I've incorporated some speed work into my routine for the first time since highschool XC. I don't plan to blow the doors off the race though. I want to jog back to through Manhattan to Brooklyn where I'm crashing with a friend after the race to get my mileage in for the weekend. I'll be happy with anything in the ballpark of 28:00, sub-7's would be nice and is totally doable, but the big picture is still more of a concern.

A pretty good, uneventful week for me.

M 5
T 10
W
T 8
F
S 4
S 15

42

Yesterday's 15 miles went a lot better than the prior week's, but I was still glad that it wasn't anything more than 15! I ran Thursday's 8 miles on the treadmill ,with 10 x 30 second strides thrown in. Man do I hate the treadmill. Everything feels harder than it does outdoors. I'd claim that all the treadmills at my Y were miscalibrated, but unfortunely it all checks out when I compare time & indicated distance via my watch. Bummer.

How did you first ever interval session go? Was it what you expected? And good luck with your upcoming race on Saturday. Post and let us know how it went.

As for my race, I guess I've done enough marathons now that I don't get too nervous anymore. At least not until the evening before the race...

I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest. I didn't know if they would be a breeze because I was accustomed to such longer mileage or if I'd want to puke after 800 meters of fast running once. Needless to say it was somewhere in between. It was such a switch running huffing and puffing like the first time you laced up your shoes. But I was fine. The recovery jog between repeats was just enough to rest and get you ready for the next one. I thought for sure I'd want to skip the last one, but I seemed to be right where I needed to be through the duration of the workout. My HR was right on target, my pace was about where I'd thought it'd be, I was consistent and most importantly I felt fine afterwards.

Good to hear. I figured, but didn't know if the BQ target might up the nervousness this time around...
