If you're lucky enough to get Fox Sports Net, you can catch the Foot Locker Cross Country championship races on TV this Saturday. The girl's race is at 9:15 Pacific time, and the boy's is at 10:00. This is the event that used to be called the Kinney Cross Country Championship, and is the top national event for high school cross-country runners.
When I was in high school, a classmate of mine went to the Kinney Nationals and placed 5th overall as a junior. He ran the 5K course in 15:15. I remember that when we did those career surveys to see what we should do with our lives, he was upset that "professional athlete" wasn't a choice. Expectations were high when he went back to the nationals during his senior year, but he finished 12th and after that I think he drifted away from running.
