Running a few shorter races during marathon training can you help you to reach marathon day less nervous and better prepared than you otherwise might. Pete Pfitzinger outlines his theory of tune-up races in his lab report article series. On top of helping with your marathon preparation, tune-up races can also provide you with valuable feedback on your current level of fitness. This can help you judge how well your current training efforts are paying off.
