Vacation Running Blues Posted: Fri Jan 21, 2005 5:48 pm

I just got back a few days ago from a skiing vacation, and its wreaked havoc with my running schedule. I got in one 10 mile run for my entire mileage last week, and today I got in 6 miles on the treadmill for my first mileage of the "new" week. Maybe sfird can keep up with her running while on vacation, but I always have a terrible time - just when I figure that I'm going to have the most flexibility in my schedule to really get in some solid mileage is when I'm apparently most likely to blow it off. I did get in some good skiing - both downhill and cross country - so I guess that counts as cross training, but I don't think it qualifies as a 50 mile week. Anyone else have this problem?

P.S. - It's not supposed to get much above zero here for the next two days, so I think maybe I just won't get out of bed, which should definitely help to make my legs strong like iron!

I've never had a winter vacation. During the summer I spend a week on Block Island, RI and run on the greenway every chance I get. It's one of my favorite places for both running and cycling.

I usually find it hard to keep up with quality training while on vacation. There are too many things going on... your schedule gets disrupted, and you're in an unfamiliar area. Where's a good place to go for a long run? Is there a track in the area? Who knows? It's too easy to just sleep in and let those training runs slide.
