Runworks 5 Mile Virtual Race Official Results Posted: Mon Jan 03, 2005 9:31 am

It's Monday, which means it's time to get back to work (boooo!), but it also means it's time for the official results from the Runworks 5 Mile Virtual Race. We had six entries-- not as many as originally hoped, but a good start for a new event on a new web site. The important thing is that everyone who participated enjoyed the experience of competing virtually against their friends and themselves. Here are the official results:

Code:
Place  Name          Home Town        Age  Time   Pace
    1  Rickshaw      Belmont, CA      M33  34:21  6:52
    2  OldManRunner  Webster, NY      M42  35:11  7:02
    3  Bricks        Chicago, IL      M27  36:07  7:13
    4  psulli        Vancouver, BC    M55  39:34  7:55
    5  Pretender     Kansas, OK       M40  44:31  8:54
    6  sfird         Long Island, NY  M52  45:07  9:01

Congratulations to everyone! This will hopefully become a regular event in the future, so tell your friends to join us next time. If there's enough interest, we might also have a few more virtual races over the course of this year, creating a virtual race series with points earned both by average finish place and number of races entered.

I hope everyone had fun!

Ahh, Rickshaw...your last race as a spry young 33 year old. I was going to chastise you for lying about your age, until I recalled that you ran your "race" before your birthday.

Good running everybody!

Hey Rickshaw, that was the most fun you can have ... alone ... on a treadmill.
Congratulations to my five fellow virtual racers, especially OldManRunner, whose time was anything but old, and Rickshaw, who broke the sound barrier, and Bricks who worked as hard as Chicago, Pretender, who's the real thing, and sfird, who just got better as the race went on.

What a dominating group! We all placed in the top 3 in our respective age groups! I look forward to the next virtual event.

Ah, you're right! In fact we all placed in the top two. Gold and silver medals for everyone! But of course the only really important thing here is that I edged out my brother. :-)

I found it very interesting (and painful) to see how close I could come to a "true" race pace when running by myself. If you believe the performance calculators, I should have been able to run 8 seconds per mile faster than I did. I'm pretty pleased that I managed to push myself that close. Maybe this would make an interesting running psychology experiment...

I dunno... Rickshaw puts on a "virtual" race, and wins... can he be trusted? Okay, I guess so... just be glad Ginger didn't participate and kick all your butts.
