marathon prep long runs Posted: Wed Dec 22, 2004 2:20 pm

If you use the calculator in the tools section: www.runworks.com/calculator.php, you can get a recommended pace for your long runs of 16-26 miles or so. I'm curious how well those paces match your actual long run pace for those people who've done some marathon training.

For me, it matches pretty well with my actual long run training pace. However, I know several people who do their long runs much faster than the calculator suggests, closer to their actual marathon race pace. There's also some question about how to structure the long run: do the whole thing at a constant pace, gradually speed up from start to end (as Pfitzinger recommends), or do a series of tempo 1-3 mile tempo intervals within the long run (favored by Daniels).
