good runner foods
Posted: Thu Dec 16, 2004 11:18 am
This is kind of related to my question about protein. I'm curious what foods most runners usually eat over the course of a day to keep the fires stoked. Some "big eaters" seem to be the eggs and bacon types, and I've heard that Steve Prefontaine was notorious for eating junk food. But most runners I know seem to eat more bagels, fruit, juice, and that kind of thing. Maybe it doesn't make too much difference as long as you're getting enough total calories.

I try and eat a pretty well balanced diet except at the peak of my marathon training and for a couple of days prior to a long run. During those days I eat far more pasta and bagels than usual.

Well, I'm eating a banana right now. A normal day for me involves lots of foods like toast, soup, and pasta, along with lots of fruits and vegetables. I don't really eat much "heavy" food. I eat the foods I do because they're what I like, not because there especially good for me or give me super powers, but generally it's pretty healthy stuff.
